As thousands of visitors enjoyed the opening day of both the People’s Choice Arts Festival and the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, Emergency Service Leaders spent Thursday, July 8, 2010 training for potential emergencies. Sixteen members of the recently formed Incident Management Team (IMT) from the South Central Mountain Regional Task Force (SCMRTF) focused on testing existing emergency response plans along with practicing on how to effectively assist local officials if a catastrophic disaster were to occur. The SCMRTF was initially created to focus on preparing to respond to terrorist incidents, but has since evolved to encompass an all-hazard approach, regardless of the cause, within an eight-county region. The IMT is comprised of experienced and specially trained leaders from emergency service agencies throughout the region that are able to respond to assist local officials during a large or prolonged incident.
